Spalted Beech Fighter

Here is a style knife I have not made in a while. Every now and then I think a maker should re-visit some different styles to remain honest!
This is a nicely done Fighter for which I forged down some large stock 80CrV. This is basically European cutlery steel that has been around a long time. Its popularity is increasing aastronomically. It's some tough stuff.
I also gave it a handrubbed finish - something I've not done in a while.
I picked up the Spalted Beech handle material in Atlanta this year at the 2021 Blade Show. It's very unique.
I made the take-down fittings from my dwindling stash of 1903 wrought iron.
The video goes into detail of all the aspects of this knife.
I am also employing new leather techniques, the first of which is used on this sheath. Or, rather - IN the sheath.

Andersen Forge Hunter
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
This is probably the single most requested knife in my arsenal - The Andersen Forge Hunter.
It fills many needs. The wide variety of materials that can be used is nearly limitless. Just use your imagiination!
On this one I used W1 Tool Steel, which I clay processed for the distinctive hamon.
I used mild steel for the guard, which I then blasted for what I call the "frosted" final surface and then hot-blued.
The handle material is a spectacular piece of end-grain, spalted and stabilized Hard Maple.
What else does a knife need to be?

Koa Hunter
- - - - - - - - - - - - -

Here's a sweet li'l thing! A Koa Hunter.
I forged the blade from a billet of Damascus that is then "flipped" and laddered! On this one, however, I sqeezed in the ladder pattern with some "West Texas Wind" ladder dies. Those dies really give the pattern some nice chatoyance.
I was also lucky to have on hand some rockin' stabilized Hawaiian Koa. It's hard not to love.
The decorative finial cover is Mammoth Ivory.
The guard was "frosted" and hot-blued.
The whole thing was topped off with an awesome sheath from Scott Teaschner in Wyoming. If you don't know Scott - you're missing the boat.

Andersen Forge Hunter

Here's a sweet example of what you can expect from Andersen Forge. This is a hunter/belt knife that I forged from some 2 1/4" round stock "old ass" W2 from my good buddy Don Hanson III.
This steel has a great reputation as a real performer with the added vanadium. That vanadium creates vanadium carbides during the hardening process stabilizing the edge at thin geometries.
I love it.
The handle is a nice piece of stabilized Hawaiian Koa and the entire things was built take-down.
She's happily living in the North Woods of Manitoba!

Ivory Cowboy

A little something I call the "Ivory Cowboy" Bowie.  (For the simple reason that it's Ivory - right?)
Anyway, it's a special knife I put together for the 2021 Atlanta Blade Show. It's a really a wonderful example of "Laddered" Ws Damascus and Walrus Ivory.
I had another fantastic opportunity to use my friend Scott Teaschner in Wyoming to mate this knife up with some of his one-of-a-kind sheaths. (When you turn Scott lose you can always expect something off the chart!)
I find this entire creation to be a very admirable example of what can come from Andersen Forge.

White Iron Hunter

Here's a new one for a great customer - a White Iron Hunter.
I forged this blade from a 2 inch round bar of what we refer to as "Old Ass W2". It's some steel from my buddy Don Hanson III.
The take-down assembly is creaed by using some 416 stainless steel and the African Black Wood was provided by the customer.
A great knife for the deer woods this Fall.

Echo Trail Hunter
 - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Now here's a knife I could be convinced to make regularly - The Echo Trail Hunter.
(I named this after a hiking trail in the Superior National Forest.)
The blade is a little longer than a normal huning/belt knife needs to be, but some folks just like 'em that way. Some like them shorter - some like them longer. I need to try please them all!
I forged this blade from some large round - what we call - "Old Ass" W2. This was some old W2 "let go" by GM and bought by only a few fellows - one of them being Don Hanson the 3rd. Commonly referred to as DH III and DH III W2.
I clay processed the hardening procedure to achieve te distinctive hamon.
The guard is from 416 stailess square stock and the handle was a block of Australian Ringed Gidgee.
A pretty seet package.

San-Mai Andersen Forge Hunter

I personally think this is a spectacular knife - even though I made it. I just love the material combination.
On this knife I made a San-Mai blade of 1095 and stainless steel. (Lots of folks are making stainless San-Mai these days, I just often wonder how many are doing it right??!!??)
I "frosted" and hot-blued the steel hardware and used an extraordinary block os spalted curly maple for the handle. here are not a lot of these to be found and I was lucky enough to grab a few when I could.
When the knife was complete i sent the sheath to Cody, WY to my friend Scott Teaschner so he could do what he does best......leather magic.
All in all this is a special knife.
I do believe I'll be making some more.

Transition Damascus Cowboy Bowie

$SOLD$
This is the only knife I brought home this year from the annual Blade Show in Atlanta. (2020 was cancelled so it was great to see good friends!)
Oddly, this is a knife I thought would be one of the first to sell!! Ya' just never kniw.
It's my favorite Damascus pattern to weld up - it's called Transition Damascus.
The steel is made from two different billet patterns and forge welded together, but when inspecting the final product closely there is no weld like - one pattern simply seems to grow out of the other.
The bottom pattern is Crushed Ws and the top is Random - look closely and the Random "grows" out of the Ws. I love it.
The take-down hardware is selectively polished and fluted 416 stainless steel and the handle is a spectacular piece of Ringed Gidgee from Australia.
(Simple leather sheath, Certificate of Authenticity, zippered pouch and domestic shipping included!)
It is a fine example of a large Bowie I was proud to put my name on.
